
Residents of Socorro, Texas, are grappling with an invasion that crawls inside their walls and haunts their nights, a red flour beetle infestation that has taken hold across private and business properties alike. As reported by El Paso Times, one anonymous resident describes the harrowing experience as a relentless battle, with the beetles crawling over her, disrupting her sleep, and leaving her in tears, she moved to Socorro in late June only to regret the decision deeply amidst her current plight, which began over a week ago and has since spread throughout her living space.
According to KFOX14, the city is actively addressing this distressing beetle boom, issuing warnings and advice on how to curb the pesky invaders, outlining several recommended measures, residents can adopt to protect their homes, these include weather sealing doors, caulking cracks, installing mesh screens on vents, and attacking beetle hideouts with pyrethroid insecticide, and warns that the more commonly used pyrethrins will not suffice; the city also advises turning off exterior lights and keeping windows closed, beetles being the light seekers that they are.
With reports of infestations coming in from various corners, the city hasn't disclosed the exact number of cases but rest assured, is taking the situation seriously. In a move to disseminate crucial information, city officials turned to social media, sharing detailed posts about the nature of the beetles and further prevention and treatment tips, as per KVIA, illustrating the city's proactive stance and commitment to community well-being as residents combat the unrelenting tide of these unwelcome guests.
