Landmark Bar & Kitchen will swing open its doors in Lubbock on September 28 at 11 a.m., taking over the West Loop 289 building that sat empty after Joe's Crab Shack closed in July 2024. The new location at 5802 W. Loop 289 marks the West Texas-themed bar and restaurant chain's third stop after Fort Worth and Addison, and it's rolling out a mechanical bull, live DJs and a fistful of opening-day giveaways to introduce itself to the South Plains.

A Fort Worth Original Heads West

The expansion was reported by 93.1 KISS FM, which reported that Landmark Bar & Kitchen already operates locations in Addison and Fort Worth ahead of its Lubbock debut. The Fort Worth flagship dates back to 2013 in the city's West 7th district before relocating in April 2024 to 6621 Fossil Bluff Drive after its original property block was sold for redevelopment, according to CultureMap Fort Worth. The brand's first move outside its home turf came in October 2025, when it opened in Addison at 5100 Belt Line Road inside Village on the Parkway, in a space that previously held a Mediterranean restaurant, per CultureMap Dallas.

Behind the growth is SS Hospitality Group, whose founder and principal is Sam Sameni, which also runs Theory Nightclub, Playground Bar and Texas Republic elsewhere in Texas, CultureMap Dallas reports. The company's Lubbock location occupies an already-built restaurant site along a busy highway corridor.

Filling a Vacant Crab Shack on the Loop

The Lubbock building has sat with a complicated recent history. Joe's Crab Shack operated at the West Loop 289 site for years before shutting down abruptly in July 2024, part of a wave of closures the national seafood chain made following its 2017 bankruptcy and subsequent ownership changes, according to KFYO. The city has since tracked signs of new life at the address: Lubbock issued a $6,000 commercial sign permit to All Star Signs, LLC in June 2026 for exterior wall signage at 5802 W. Loop 289, according to municipal permit records from the City of Lubbock.

The opening will also get an official civic stamp of approval. The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the location for September 28, formally welcoming the business to the local market.

Mechanical Bull, Trash Can Nachos and Opening-Day Perks

Inside, Landmark leans into its West Texas identity with a mechanical bull nicknamed Buckshot Bronco, alongside interactive arcade and backyard games, a signature feature at its other Texas locations, per CultureMap Dallas. The Lubbock location will bring that same mechanical bull, plus live DJs and ice-cold beer, according to 93.1 KISS FM. The scratch kitchen menu keeps most dishes priced between $10 and $20, with offerings like Cajun chicken alfredo and trash can nachos alongside a daily $10 lunch special, including a Friday chicken-fried-chicken special, CultureMap Dallas reports. In Lubbock, the menu will extend to pastas, wings, starters, snacks and flatbreads, plus brunch with special dishes and drinks, happy hour specials and a late-night menu, per 93.1 KISS FM.

Opening day comes with incentives designed to draw a crowd early. Prizes for the first people through the door include Texas Tech Homecoming game tickets, free food for a year, exclusive Landmark merchandise and a big-screen TV, according to 93.1 KISS FM.

Timed Ahead of Texas Tech Homecoming

The late-September opening lands just weeks before Texas Tech's 2026 Homecoming football game against Arizona State, set for October 17, according to Texas Tech University's Student Union & Activities. That leaves Landmark less than three weeks to get its footing before the homecoming event arrives.

The new bar will occupy a site along the West Loop 289 and 82nd Street corridor, as noted by Lubbock in the Loop. Landmark's arrival gives the city a new dining option on the outer loop.
