A somber reality has once again befallen the streets of Southern Dallas, where a pedestrian's life was abruptly ended in a hit-and-run incident this past weekend. The Dallas Express reported that Derrick Allen, 47, was walking along Prosperity Avenue in the early morning hours when a vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Rodolfo Jamaica, fatally struck him.
According to The Dallas Express, the Dallas Police Department quickly responded to the accident site at the intersection of Prosperity Avenue and Stanley Smith Drive at approximately 1:45 a.m. on August 18. It was reported that Allen and an unidentified companion were walking westward on 2800 Prosperity Avenue when Jamaica, allegedly speeding to pass another vehicle, hit Allen and failed to stop and render aid.
The suspect's recklessness continued beyond the initial tragedy. Jamaican reportedly proceeded to collide with another car and crash into a house about a mile away on Kathleen Avenue, after which he was taken into custody by the authorities. Rodolfo Jamaica faces grave charges, including intoxication manslaughter, as detailed by WFAA.
