
Early Saturday morning, Springfield Police Department officers apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in a shooting incident on Oswego Street. According to the Springfield Police Department's official release, the event transpired at 4:35 a.m. with a report of shots fired an hour earlier. A residence's kitchen window was the casualty in this incident when it was pierced by bullets, no injuries were reported from within the dwelling.
Investigative leads pointed officers to the 400 block of Main Street, where they located 19-year-old Abdiel Urena and a 17-year-old male, whose identity remains concealed due to his minor status. Upon a search, authorities discovered a loaded, high-capacity firearm snug in Urena’s jacket pocket, leading to his and the juvenile's arrest, on the spot. The pair now face serious charges, with Urena's list including unlawful discharge of a firearm, unlicensed carrying and possession of a firearm, possession of a large-capacity magazine, and property damage, alongside drug possession.
Details about the underage suspect are limited, with only confirmation of his detention. Springfield Police have not released his charges or identity due to his age. This policy ensures that juvenile suspects’ cases remain private and are handled with more care than those of adults.
