Springfield Police, along with the Hampden County Sheriff's Department and Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit, apprehended 18-year-old Aaron Carrillo-Vega on firearm charges yesterday. Carrillo-Vega, who was under GPS ankle bracelet monitoring from previous gun-related charges, was caught with a loaded weapon following a months-long investigation by the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU).
On August 6th, around 5:20 p.m., officers managed to swiftly to converge upon Carrillo-Vega after receiving a tip-off that he was in possession of an illegal firearm at Rodney Smith Jr. Circle. Springfield Police Detectives, under Sergeants Jaime Bruno and David Robillard’s guidance, conducted surveillance and saw Carrillo-Vega enter his residence and return to a parking lot congregated by individuals around two vehicles. Once the assisting units arrived, they detained Carrillo-Vega and the group for questioning.
An ensuing search of Carrillo-Vega's bedroom uncovered a firearm with 17 rounds of ammunition and extra ammunition. According to the Springfield Police Department's Facebook post, Carrillo-Vega was arrested and faces numerous charges including illegal possession of a high-capacity firearm and ammunition without a license, as well as the improper storage of a firearm near a minor.
