In a statement released on August 12, Luis Escoto, a man from St. Lucie County, was given a two-decade-long prison sentence for the heinous crime of producing child pornography. The U.S. District Court confirmed that Escoto, 28, pleaded guilty earlier in May 2024.
Details reveal that from November 2022 through January 2023, the defendant engaged in illegal sexual activities with a minor, recording the encounters and convincing the 17-year-old victim to send explicit images. The Martin County Sheriff's Office apprehended Escoto in a sting operation where an undercover detective impersonated the minor victim.
According to the Department of Justice, U.S. District Judge David S. Liebowitz sentenced Escoto to 240 months in prison followed by 15 years of supervised release. U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe, Special Agent in Charge Anthony Salisbury of Homeland Security Investigations, and Sheriff William D. Snyder announced the verdict.
The case was investigated by HSI Fort Pierce and Martin County Sheriff's Office, with the prosecution led by Managing Assistant U.S. Attorney Carmen Lineberger. This case falls under the Project Safe Childhood initiative, aiming to curb the increasing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
