The City of Surprise has announced some adjustments to its services in honor of Labor Day, so locals should prepare for a change in routine. City administrative offices will be taking a pause on Monday, September 2, but that's not all there is to it. According to the City's official statement, residents who rely on the city for their trash and recycling needs will have to tightly hold onto their refuse for an extra day, as collections are delayed to commence again on Tuesday, September 3. The disruption is due solely to the holiday, but rest assured, this is a temporary shift.
For those eager to not forget their revised collection days, the MySurprise App is being pushed as a trusty companion. Sign up is encouraged for weekly reminders about your pickup schedule via text or email through the app, which can be snatched up from either the Apple or Android app stores, or directly from the City's website. This little bit of tech comes in handy, especially during weeks when holidays come to throw a wrench into regular schedules. However, it's important to remember that this change affects City of Surprise sanitation customers only, so if you're not part of that area, you'll have to check in with your actual service provider to see if their trucks will be taking a holiday too.
Surprise is also mixing up the tempo for some of its community services. Labor Day won't shut everything down - in fact, it's business as usual for most city programs with just a little twist. All three Surprise libraries are set to keep their doors open, albeit with "modified hours for the holiday." The Surprise Regional and Asante Libraries will be operating from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Hollyhock Library will open at the same time but will close up shop a bit earlier at 3 p.m. On the other hand, the aquatic lovers will be happy to know that the Surprise Aquatic Center will still offer its refreshing embrace from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., as detailed on the City's news release.
For the athletically inclined, there's no need to put your rackets to rest - the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Center is prepared to serve from the early hours of 6:30 a.m. up till 11 a.m. on the holiday for open play. Unfortunately, if the Hollyhock Community Pool is part of your routine, remember it's closed for the season anyway, so this isn't the holiday's fault. To keep abreast of all the changes and updates, the city invites citizens to stay connected via social media, where they lob regular updates on platforms like Facebook at @CityofSurprise.
For any lingering questions or a need to confirm the details, Surprise extends a line at 623.222.1900 to clear up any confusion regarding the holiday schedule modifications or other city-related inquiries. And so, as Surprise gears up for a day of recognition and rest, it advises its denizens to plan ahead, to adjust timely, and to celebrate responsibly amidst these small yet notable municipal shifts.
