Passengers on a Daly City-bound BART train encountered a disruption on Tuesday morning when an armed man was reportedly attempting to access an electrical cabinet aboard. The situation quickly escalated as BART Police were alerted to the potential vandalism and threat. According to the BART Police Department, a rider tip spurred the swift response from law enforcement that led to the interruption of the would-be vandal's activities. Officers intervened at Powell Street Station, removing 22-year-old Kamal Ali of Oakland from a train.
Further investigation by the officers revealed that Ali carried more than tools for vandalism. A concealed handgun was found in his cross-body bag. In the aftermath of the arrest, it was confirmed that Ali had a pair of outstanding warrants to his name, indicating a broader spectrum of legal troubles for the suspect.
