Two separate incidents involving tractor-trailers disrupted traffic on Interstate 595 in Davie this Saturday, resulting in lane closures and extensive delays. According to WSVN, the first accident occurred near Davie Road, just west of 27th Avenue, where two tractor-trailers collided, setting off a fire in one of the trucks. Davie Fire Rescue units were quick to respond to the crash that happened shortly after 9 a.m. miraculously, the flames did not manage to reach the gas tank.
One driver was transported to Broward Health Medical Center with minor injuries, while the other was fortunate enough to emerge unscathed. All eastbound lanes were forced to temporarily shut down, later reopening to the flow of traffic. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
In a separate but similarly disruptive event, a gasoline tanker was reported by NBC Miami to rear-end another semi truck in the eastbound lanes of I-595 just west of University Drive. This crash also took place around the same time on Saturday morning. Florida Highway Patrol officials disclosed that as a result, all eastbound lanes had to be closed to facilitate cleanup operations, backing up traffic considerably.
Though major injuries were avoided, the accidents highlighted the dangers of heavy commercial vehicles on crowded highways. Cleanup crews worked quickly to reopen the lanes, and the express lanes remained unaffected. Videos showed significant backups as drivers navigated around the disruption, safely passing by the site of the collisions.
