
A tragic incident on Wears Valley Road claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Tuesday night, after a collision caused by a truck driver now facing multiple charges. WVLT reported that 59-year-old Clark Franklin of Sevierville was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash that took place near Lona Drive around 9:30 p.m.
The Pigeon Forge Police Department shared details of the response, indicating that the truck driver, 48-year-old Dennis Grooms Jr., is being charged with driving under the influence, vehicular homicide, and failure to yield, among other charges. Department officials said that Grooms pulled out in front of Franklin, leading to the fatal collision. This information is based on statements obtained by local news sources, including WATE and WBIR.
The Pigeon Forge Police Department alerted the public to the road closure resulting from the accident via Facebook, reflecting the immediate response to the incident. The road, an arterial conduit frequented by tourists and locals alike, was blocked as emergency services attended the scene.
Impaired driving remains a public safety issue that continues to cause preventable tragedies on the roads. In light of this recent event, the police have issued reminders of the serious consequences of driving under the influence. Also included are charges of implied consent, indicating that Grooms may have refused a blood alcohol content test following the crash.
