A UPS employee has been ensnared by the law for allegedly filching the very items she was hired to protect. According to the Montgomery County Police Department, Adela Beatriz Orellana of Hyattsville faces multiple theft charges for swiping contents from UPS packages and peddling them at local pawnbrokers.
The initial incident that unfurled the string of thefts involved a report on November 21, 2023, detailing how a shipment of five gold coins shrank to a mere duo upon arrival, the lacking trove pointed a prodding finger at mishandling by UPS. This began a thread that led to the victim's discovery of the missing coins at a quaint Wayne Ave coin shop, on April 1, as per the Montgomery County Department of Police. The skilled hands of the Montgomery Police's 4th District Patrol Investigation Unit traced the breadcrumb trail back to Orellana.
In the summation of their inquiry, detectives nailed down June 20, as the day an arrest warrant for Orellana was set in stone, she complied by surrendering on June 26 and was subsequently released after concocting the sum required for her bond, as reported by the Montgomery County Department of Police.
