North County firefighters were called to battle a vegetation blaze near the NB 15 Freeway, just below State Route 76, late Tuesday evening. According to a Facebook post by the North County Fire Protection District, the fire was reported at 7:24 PM and units arrived at the scene approximately 11 minutes later. Firefighters found a vehicle engulfed in flames, which had begun to invade the surrounding flora.
The responding crews swiftly contained the fire to a 40 ft by 40 ft perimeter. In the fray, however, one individual suffered injuries and was subsequently transported to a trauma facility. The origin of this incident is currently under active investigation, and the gravity of having such an event occur unbidden cannot be underplayed.
Support from CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire was pivotal during this incident. The North County Fire Protection District expressed "sincere appreciation" for their collaborative partners' contribution in maintaining the community's safety.
