The community of Waianae is reeling from yet another shooting incident, marking a surge of gun violence within the span of 10 days. Yesterday, two teenagers were quickly hospitalized after being shot in Waianae, a community increasingly affected by gun violence. According to the Honolulu police, they have commenced a first-degree attempted murder investigation into the incident, as mentioned by Star Advertiser.

Paramedics were swiftly deployed around 8:30 p.m. to Ala Akau Street, where they found a 15-year-old boy with wounds to both his upper and lower body. They provided advanced life support and transported the boy to the emergency room in an effort to save his life. Barely five minutes later, a 19-year-old man, bearing the evidence of multiple gunshot wounds, walked up to an Emergency Medical Services unit stationed at 85-645 Farrington Highway, as reported by KHON2. He too was taken to the ER in serious condition.

Authorities are still in the dark about the perpetrator or perpetrators, as no suspect has been detained at this time. The Honolulu Police Department has not given a clear location of the occurrence beside the general "Waianae area," as per Star Advertiser. These incidents follow a police officer’s fatal shooting of a man earlier this week after a domestic dispute and a gun discharge that injured a neighbor. In response, local legislators and Honolulu Police Chief Arthur “Joe” Logan are urging the community to work with law enforcement to address gun violence. This call for peace and safety comes after a shooting at the Waianae Small Boat Harbor on August 6.
