Waimea Firefighters Extinguish Accidental Shed Fire, No Injuries ReportedSource: Google Street View

Waimea firefighters quickly extinguished a storage shed fire on Sunday afternoon, ensuring no injuries occurred. According to a report from Kaua‘i County, the incident unfolded at a residence on Nima Place in Waimea with the call coming in just after 2 p.m.

Bystanders had initially attempted to douse the flames using a fire extinguisher and the water from two garden hoses in a bid to slowly stop the fire from spreading. Once the Waimea and Hanapēpē firefighters arrived, they found the small structure, a 10-foot by 20-foot shed detached from the main house, emitting smoke through the windows. Tank water was swiftly utilized by the firefighters to kill the fire from outside before entering to tackle the remains and any hot spots.

The fire did not take away anyone from their loved ones or inflict physical wounds, for no injuries were reported amidst the blaze and its suppression— a silver lining in an event where loss, at least of property, was inevitable. The Kaua‘i Fire Prevention Bureau inspectors put the damages at an estimated $22,500, encompassing both the shed and its contents.

An equipment malfunction was determined to be the cause of the unfortunate incident, making the fire accidental rather than a consequence of foul play. The scene was cleared by 3:30 p.m., bringing the situation to a close but leaving a mark on the day for the residents of Nima Place.
