A man wanted for a homicide in Denver was arrested this week in Las Cruces after being caught shoplifting. Oscar Martinez, 48, from Denver, was taken into custody on Tuesday near Roadrunner Parkway and Foothills Road. Police were searching for someone matching his description after a shoplifting report from a nearby Walgreens, according to the City of Las Cruces.
When police identified Martinez, they discovered he was wanted for a murder that happened in Denver on or before August 1. This changed the situation from a simple shoplifting arrest to a more serious matter, as he was linked to a significant crime.
Martinez is now being held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center. He is waiting to be sent back to Colorado, where he will face further questioning and legal action related to the homicide case.
