A Washington, D.C. man, Christopher Sharp, 31, has been dealt a sentence exceeding five years imprisonment for sexually assaulting six strangers, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington reported today. Sharp's criminal behavior unfolded in broad daylight across various locations in Northwest Washington, D.C. on the morning of August 13, 2023, and continued two days later.
Superior Court Judge Robert Okun ordered Sharp to serve 48 months for the third degree sexual abuse conviction and 90 additional days for each of five misdemeanor counts, to run consecutive with one another. Following his sentence, Sharp faces five years of supervised release with special conditions, and a mandate to both register as a sex offender for a decade and contribute to the Victim’s Compensation Fund, as stated in the official announcement by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
Sharp admitted guilt to these charges on April 19. In a detailed factual proffer, it was revealed that Sharp assaulted three women by inappropriately touching them as they walked on the sidewalks, his actions ranging from grabbing to physically overpowering one victim before intervention by bystanders broke his attempted assault. U.S. Attorney Graves and Chief Smith praised the work of the MPD Sexual Assault Unit and lauded Assistant U.S. Attorneys Raha Mokhtari and Kristin Sourbeer, among others for contributing to the case’s resolution.
