A Washington, D.C. man, Emerson Goldring, Jr., 32, has been sentenced to 78 months in prison for the robbery and assault of a pizza delivery driver. The incident, involving a firearm, occurred last summer on July 21 and also resulted in Sutasha Miller, 34, receiving a sentence of 18 months for attempted robbery in connection with the same crime, though her incarceration was suspended contingent on completing a year of supervised probation, as per the U.S. Department of Justice.
Guilty pleas were entered by both defendants on June 14. According to information from the government, Goldring, Jr. requested that the delivery driver roll down his window before attacking and robbing him. Miller, involved in the attempted robbery, stood by the driver's side during the assault. Following the incident, the pair were said to have retreated to Miller’s nearby apartment with stolen pizza.
In a press release, U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves, together with Chief Pamela Smith of the MPD, acknowledged the sentencing and expressed appreciation for the investigative efforts of the MPD. The Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew Goldstein, Randle Wilson, and Lauren “Luca” Winer, who handled the prosecution of the case, were also applauded for their dedication.
The assault took place on the 4800 block of North Capitol Street NE. Goldring Jr., armed with a firearm, punched the Domino’s delivery driver and hit him with the butt of the gun, while Miller, after reaching inside to open the driver's side door, remained outside. The two then made off with several pizza boxes and a pizza warmer bag.
