Last Saturday, an early morning in Waxahachie was disrupted by gunfire and sirens as police responded to a "shots fired" call on East Criddle Street. According to the Waxahachie Police Department's Facebook page, multiple reports described a chaotic scene with gunshots and cars speeding away. Responding officers found a 24-year-old Hispanic male, a neighborhood resident, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Waxahachie Police Department.
Despite rapid efforts by the Waxahachie Police and Fire-Rescue departments, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has been withheld to respect his mourning family. As the community grappled with the tragedy, investigators quickly identified a suspect and secured an arrest warrant.
By that afternoon, the alleged perpetrator, 28-year-old Wilfredo Ramos, peacefully surrendered to authorities outside his home on Butler Lane. Ramos was booked into the Wayne McCollum Detention Center on murder charges. The peaceful nature of his surrender was confirmed in an official release by the Waxahachie Police Department, concluding a tense day with a sense of resolution.
