The city is expanding its commitment to green spaces with the unveiling of the Clear Lake Trail expansion. On Saturday, August 17, from 9 a.m. to noon, Mayor Keith A. James alongside other distinguished guests, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to introduce a new commuter greenway, designed to offer residents a fresh way to quickly navigate the city. The event, featuring free giveaways and activities, is open to the public at the trail's entrance at 360 Presidio Pl., according to official city announcements.
The festivities commence at 10 a.m. with the ribbon-cutting, with Mayor James and Valerie Neilson, the executive director of the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency, expected to make remarks. Attendees will be treated to not only a first look at the new boardwalk and pathways but will also have a chance to fully experience the trail on BrightBikes, made available by the city for the event. The city seems to earnestly hope to encourage visitors to actively indulge in the trail's potential.
Those in attendance can also expect to receive some free giveaways, ranging from fanny packs and cooling towels to bike bells, all of which are geared toward enhancing the outdoor experience. Moreover, the West Palm Beach Police Department will be serving up snow cones, adding a dash of summer fun to the dedicated community affair. The trail, which is set to eventually extend from Okeechobee Blvd. to Australian Blvd., is a testament to the collaborative financial efforts of the Palm Beach County Transportation Planning Agency, the State of Florida Forestry Service, and the City of West Palm Beach’s Office of Housing and Community Development.
