
A tragic event unfolded in Chicago's Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood recently, where a 27-year-old woman was fatally shot while trying to drive away from two armed individuals, ABC7 Chicago reported. The incident took place on Thursday morning, just past 11 a.m., in the 7000 block of South Vernon Avenue.
According to Chicago police, the victim and another woman, aged 30, were sitting inside a car when the gunmen approached, as the car attempted to speed away one of the assailants opened fire, hitting the driver in the head and leading to her eventual death at the University of Chicago Hospital; meanwhile, the second woman escaped unharmed, and the shooters fled the scene, no current suspects are in custody and the motive behind the attack, whether it was an attempted robbery or carjacking is still to be determined, as reported by CBS News Chicago.
Following the shooting, the area was left in a tense silence, marked by the all-too-familiar sirens and the flashing lights of law enforcement vehicles. The victim’s identity has not yet been disclosed to the public, with officials only confirming her age. Chicago's Area 1 detectives have been assigned the case and are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this violent encounter.
