A serious motor accident occurred Tuesday morning in Shelby County, resulting in a woman's vehicle plunging into a lake. Deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office responded to the two-vehicle collision at the crossroads of Miller Road and Mudville Road shortly before 8:30 a.m., as reported by WREG.
Upon arrival, law enforcement found one car submerged in the lake, while the other had come to rest off the roadway. In a rapid response, the deputies entered the water to retrieve the female driver from her sinking car, an intervention that may have been critical in the immediate aftermath of the crash. The driver, 57, was then subjected to life-saving measures by responding personnel, as per Local Memphis.
Following her extraction from the lake, the woman, who remains unidentified, was transported in critical condition to Methodist North Hospital. Shelby County Fire Department, alongside a bystander and deputies, coordinated the rescue efforts. The incident has since triggered an ongoing investigation by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office to discern the precise cause of the crash, a piece of information shared by Action News 5.
As the investigation continues, traffic is being rerouted around the crash site, with officials advising drivers to use Rosemark Road and East Kerrville-Rosemark Road instead. This helps the investigation and keeps drivers safe near the crash. The community is increasingly concerned about road safety, reminded of the hidden dangers on everyday routes.
