In a recent unfolding at South Greene Middle School, 16 students have now been officially charged in relation to a TikTok video that simulated a school shooting scenario. The Greene County Sheriff's Office reported that these students are all set to face juvenile court proceedings.
According to WBIR, the concerning video, which surfaced on TikTok, saw the group of juveniles enactment what appeared to be a school shooting, labeled with a "to be continued" tag. The Green County Sheriff's Office, through a press release, stated that the department was alerted to the video's existence on Tuesday afternoon. Deputy Bill Carr, also the school resource officer at South Greene Middle School, swiftly came to know about the video prompting an immediate investigation. The original video was subsequently taken down from the platform, but not before it had been shared multiple times.
WATE also reported that the charges are for disorderly conduct. This addresses both the potential threat of the video and its disruptive impact on the school community.
Greene County Juvenile Court requires the students to appear, but they haven't made the specific dates public. Details about the students involved are limited due to their juvenile status, but officials stress the seriousness of the situation, according to WVLT.
