A tragedy unfolded on the streets of northeast Las Vegas Friday evening as a 23-year-old motorcyclist lost his life during a collision with an SUV. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported the incident as the 108th traffic-related fatality within their jurisdiction for 2024. According to a statement obtained by the Review-Journal, the crash occurred on North Nellis Boulevard near Goodin Way, a short distance from Las Vegas Boulevard, at approximately 5 p.m.

The motorcyclist was southbound on Nellis Boulevard astride a Yamaha R6 when a northbound Ford Flex making a U-turn collided with the motorcycle. The rider was ejected upon impact and later pronounced dead at the scene, the police said. The Ford, carrying three passengers including two 12-year-old girls, one of whom suffered a minor injury during the crash, was not under suspicion of impairment, according to information shared by 8 News Now.

Metro Lt. Ken Nogle stated on Friday night that detectives are still working to gather details about the incident and determine who is at fault. The investigation is complicated by the need to figure out if speed was a significant factor or if other issues contributed.

The Clark County coroner's office, tasked with the solemn duty of making such declarations, is expected to release the identity of the young man whose journey met an untimely end on that northeast valley road. Nellis Boulevard turned into an investigation scene, closed in both directions between Las Vegas Boulevard and Gowan Road well into the evening hours as per police advisement for commuters to avoid the area.
