A tragic collision in Sterling Heights claimed the life of a 64-year-old woman yesterday afternoon. The head-on crash involved four vehicles and occurred around 3 p.m. near 15 Mile Road on Schoenherr Road. According to CBS News Detroit, the woman was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital. Reports indicate a driver in a black Durango traveling southbound on Schoenherr crossed the center line and struck the woman's blue Saturn head-on as she proceeded northbound.
Sterling Heights police, who are still investigating the cause of the crash, have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs were involved, as noted by FOX 2 Detroit. Witnesses described the incident as a loud and shocking event. "Crazy, like scary - it’s like someone screaming basically how loud the tires were screeching," Joseph Kathawa, a witness to the accident, told FOX 2 Detroit.
The aftermath of the collision prompted another accident involving two additional vehicles and resulted in minor injuries. Neighbors have expressed concern, suggesting that the roadway has been notorious for dangerous incidents. As reported by WWJ Newsradio, resident Charlie Kavanaugh remarked on the frequency of crashes in the area, saying, "And I've seen cars mangled. But what I'm seeing over there is totally out of control". Kavanaugh has lived in the vicinity for nearly thirty years.
