In St. Louis' Benton Park West neighborhood, a man was fatally shot early Sunday morning. According to First Alert 4, police identified the suspect as 69-year-old Roger Dale Huddleston, who has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. The shooting occurred in the 2800 block of Ohio Avenue. When officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department arrived, they found the victim, a 56-year-old man whose name has not been released, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Surveillance footage obtained by authorities, Fox2Now reported that the video showed the victim, hunched over and holding his arm in pain before being shot in the head. Following a brief period, a man, alleged to be Huddleston, is seen kicking the victim. Officials stated Huddleston admitted to the shooting, also noting that the victim had not posed a threat to him prior to the fatal shot.
Bond for Huddleston had not been set following the charges, and an initial court appearance is still pending. KSDK shared a list of resources for crime victims, including organizations like the Crime Victim Center of St. Louis, Life Outside of Violence, and the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis' Neighborhood Healing Network. These groups provide support to victims and work on preventing future crimes.
