A pedestrian accident in San Marcos has resulted in the death of 76-year-old Francisca Garcia Vargas, who was struck by a vehicle while walking along a road earlier this month. As FOX 5 San Diego reported, Vargas was hit at the intersection of South Twin Oaks Valley Road and Shubin Lane on the evening of September 6, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Despite the efforts of first responders who transported Vargas to the hospital for serious injuries, she later died at the medicine facility. Struck by an unspecified sedan, it was determined that the driver stayed on the scene and cooperated with law enforcement, with no alcohol involved in the crash. The incident occurred just after 9 p.m., as stated in the report by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office, and paramedics provided life-saving measures to no avail.
The investigation into the circumstances that led to the tragic event is ongoing. The Hoodline article describes a white Toyota Camry, driven by a woman, as the vehicle involved in the collision. Officials have not yet released the driver's name or any potential witnesses to the media.
