The Arizona Department of Transportation is holding a conference this Oct. 22 aimed at helping smaller businesses and those defined as disadvantaged by the agency's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program. The goal of the event is straightforward: Get these firms in the running for transportation industry contracts — a field that can look like a closed circuit from the outside. It's all happening at the Delta Hotel in Mesa, where ADOT will play host to an array of networking opportunities, educational sessions, and knowledge exchange, as detailed by ADOT.
The conference will focus on "Bridging Inclusive Growth." Attendees can network with prime contractors, schedule one-on-one meetings with purchasing agents, and learn about tools from ADOT to help their businesses succeed. There's a particular focus on ensuring that socially and economically disadvantaged individuals are not left by the wayside in the race for federally funded projects.
According to an announcement from ADOT, the gathering will feature speakers from the upper echelons of the transportation world, including ADOT’s Deputy Director Teresa Welborn. They will be imparting their wisdom on industry trends and the direction in which these roads are leading.
The conference is not just a boon for small and disadvantaged business entrepreneurs, however. All those with a vested interest in the transportation field — be it public agencies, vendors, or community partners — are invited to this inclusive event. ADOT makes it clear, that the conference is about empowering those who might not have the heft or the historical advantage in garnering these federal contracts but invites anyone interested to join their ranks.
For those who would like to dive in, details and registration can be found on ADOT’s DBE Supportive Services Program website. It's an open call for small businesses that seek to expand their horizons and anyone who wants to hand these industry newcomers the keys to a larger playing field.
