
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced an upcoming public meeting on October 1st to discuss the interchange improvements at Interstate 19 and Irvington Road, to enhance traffic flow and safety for Tucson commuters. The public is encouraged to participate in the session, which will take place at El Pueblo Activity Center Multipurpose Room from 5:30 to 7 p.m., featuring a formal presentation at 6 p.m., where ADOT representatives will answer questions and collect feedback from attendees.
According to ADOT, the proposed upgrades include a partial cloverleaf ramp addition for eastbound Irvington Road to northbound I-19, widening of on-ramps in preparation for future ramp metering, and the replacement of the Irvington Road bridge to accommodate three lanes of travel in each direction the construction of pedestrian and cycle paths is also on the agenda, which will include new sidewalks, signalized pedestrian crossings, and bike lanes on both sides of Irvington Road.
Further enhancements detailed by the ADOT consist of new traffic signals, improved lighting, updated signage, and fresh striping to guide vehicular flow. The design phase of the interchange improvements is expected to be completed by spring 2025, with construction anticipated to kick off in the later part of 2025. ADOT emphasizes the project's focus on traffic safety and efficiency, seeking to adapt to Tucson's growing transportation demands.
