An Ann Arbor man is facing a series of charges following an alleged burglary that occurred while a local family was asleep in their home. Javare Holmes, 29, was arrested in connection with the crime, which took place in the early morning hours of September 4. According to Click on Detroit, the suspect entered the home through an unlocked door located on William Street.
The residents reportedly awoke to find several items missing, including a laptop, which, the police were able to track down to an address near Packard and Main streets. Further investigation led law enforcement to surveillance footage from a nearby gas station where Holmes was allegedly spotted using a stolen credit card. Authorities stated that they found Holmes's vehicle with the stolen items visible inside, leading to his arrest.
In their statement, the Ann Arbor Police Department highlighted the importance of securing one's home, reminding the community to lock all doors and windows before retiring for the night. They also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the police by calling 911. This advice followed an incident that served as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities inherent in assuming the sanctity of one's dwelling.
As a result of the evidence gathered, Holmes faces charges including first-degree home invasion, receiving and concealing stolen property worth between $1,000 and $20,000, and two counts of stealing a financial transaction device without consent. After his arrest, Holmes was issued a $75,000 bond and remains in custody at the Washtenaw County Jail, the City of Ann Arbor Police Department confirmed in a Facebook post.
