In a significant nod to the dedication shown towards military families, the Anthony Independent School District (AISD) and the Socorro Independent School District (SISD) have recently been decorated with the Purple Star award by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). As reported by KTSM, all AISD campuses, including Anthony Elementary, middle, and high school, have proudly earned this honor.

The Purple Star designation, which recognizes schools that go to great lengths to support the specific needs of military-connected students and their families, will remain valid for two years before necessitating re-application. AISD was keen to highlight this accomplishment in a news release, with the district stressing its commitment to the well-being of those linked to military service. According to their Monday announcement, the entire district has pulled together to create a supportive educational environment for military families.

Moving into its next chapter of military family support, Socorro ISD celebrates an impressive 39 campuses making the 2024-25 Purple Star designation list. This effort was championed by Options High School, joining the ranks for the first time. Options High School Principal Dr. Theresa Hentges expressed honor in receiving the designation, saying, as per KFOX-TV, "It is an incredible honor for Options High School to be designated for focusing on the families of our nation's heroes and giving a fraction back to those that have given up so much for us."

The Purple Star is more than just a banner or a title, it is a testament to the continuous efforts schools make to foster an environment that respects and assists in the transition of military-linked students and their families. SISD's commitment is evident in the words of Dr. Carmen Olivas-Graham, who told KFOX-TV, "SISD is all into providing the best services and resources available to our military-connected students and their families to ensure that their transition to our district is as smooth as possible." This reflects a larger, shared mission among school districts alike to duly honor military service through education and support, one Purple Star at a time.
