Arlington Animal Services has joined forces with Operation Kindness to offer a day of complimentary vet care for community cats. According to the City of Arlington, on Sept. 19, locals can bring in unowned, free-roaming felines for necessary medical procedures, including spaying or neutering, all at no cost. This initiative directly addresses concerns over the city's escalating feral cat population.

According to a recent notification by Arlington's municipal website, the event is exclusively open to the first 50 cats brought in by Arlington residents, with no restriction on the number of cats each individual can bring. However, humane trapping protocols will be strictly enforced—one cat per humane trap, with clear labeling of the trapper's contact information.

Michelle Patchett, an administrative aide for Animal Services, underscored the significance of local efforts to manage these burgeoning cat communities. "We have heard our community’s plea for help and assistance when it comes to the feral cat overpopulation problems in our city," Patchett told Arlington's municipal news outlet. "We are so excited to work with Operation Kindness in what we hope is the first of many spay/neuter clinics to combat this issue!"

Services will be performed at the Animal Services Center, located at 1000 S.E. Green Oaks Blvd. Drop-offs will commence at 7:30 a.m., and pickups are scheduled for 4 p.m.

For those residents unable to attend the scheduled event, Arlington Animal Services encourages seeking information on the city's ongoing trap-neuter-return (TNR) program, highlighting local commitment to finding humane and sustainable solutions to animal overpopulation concerns.
