An investigation is ongoing following an early morning incident where an off-duty Atlanta police officer's vehicle was shot at by a driver in Northwest Atlanta. According to the FOX 5, the confrontation occurred around Howell Mill Road and Chattahoochee Avenue. The officer, though off-duty, found himself amidst a potentially deadly exchange when an unidentified driver in an SUV opened fire, striking his personal vehicle at least once. The officer was unharmed and the shooter fled the scene.
The Atlanta Police Department is currently searching for the individual responsible for the shooting which took place earlier today. As the situation unfolded, part of Howell Mill Road near 17th Street was temporarily closed, but it has since been reopened to public access. The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect's vehicle was driving erratically before the shots were fired. The assailant's vehicle was last seen heading north on Howell Mill Road after the officer returned fire in the direction of the SUV. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported, and authorities are keen on gathering information from anyone who might have witnessed the incident or has knowledge regarding the SUV or the driver involved.
