Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has officially named Austin Kinghorn as the new Deputy Attorney General for Legal Strategy. In this elevated position, Kinghorn is expected to continue his track record of upholding legal standards and working towards the fair administration of justice in Texas.
"Throughout his time at the Office of the Attorney General, Austin has continually displayed exceptional skill, judgment, and dedication to serving the people of Texas," Paxton said in a recent announcement. "I want to congratulate Austin on his new role, where he will continue to promote liberty and justice for Texas." Before his promotion, Kinghorn contributed to the Attorney General's Office as Associate Deputy Attorney General for Legal Counsel, as well as Chair of the Opinion Committee. His background boasts a diverse array of legal expertise including a stint as the OAG's General Counsel and experience as a litigator with the Healthcare Program Enforcement Division.
A proven figure in the legal landscape, Kinghorn also offered his legal services as a staff attorney to two Texas Supreme Court justices, and cut his teeth as a commercial litigator in Houston after a period clerking for Justice Jeff Brown, who now holds the title of a U.S. district court judge. Kinghorn prepared for his legal career by attaining his J.D. from Baylor Law School and securing his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
