Over a year after a tragic incident that took the life of a woman at an Austin intersection, the driver responsible has been handed a prison sentence; Randall Cavazos, 22 at the time of the crash, pleaded guilty to intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle and was sentenced to four years in prison, according to KXAN.
The collision, which occurred just before midnight on July 27, 2022, at the crossroads of Farm to Market Road 973 and Elroy Road, near the Austin airport, resulted in the death of Priscilla Juarez, a Hispanic female born 02/29/1976, and left two others hospitalized, one sustaining life-threatening injuries while the second suffered injuries deemed non-life threatening, this heartrending scene unfolded as Cavazos, driving intoxicated, ran a red light and collided with Juarez's vehicle, which as a result, rolled over, the City of Austin's official website outlines.
In the wake of the accident, Cavazos faced both charges of intoxicated manslaughter and assault. In addition to his prison time, the Travis County court imposed a consecutive sentence on him covering probation linked to the assault charge arising from the very same incident, as per KXAN. "If Cavazos is eligible for jail credit, he will receive 16 days of that credit, according to court documents."
