Bay Area residents can expect a small rise in temperatures this afternoon, with even warmer conditions forecasted for tomorrow. According to the NWS Bay Area, a weak ridge building in the region is behind the slight increase in warmth. But it appears that this is just the calm before the proverbial storm.
While Friday is the hottest day of the week, we're looking at a sharp turn in the weather come Sunday. Bringing rain chances along with it, another upper-level low is due to approach the region. "Temperatures across the region will be slightly warmer this afternoon as a weak ridge begins to build into the region. Even warmer tomorrow! All this before a greater cool down on Sunday as another upper level low approaches the region, bringing rain chances?!?" says the NWS Bay Area.
The National Weather Service provides further insights. "An upper level trough to our north continues to shift farther inland with wind speeds diminishing throughout the day, yet will remain breezy to gusty at times." So, while the winds are dying down, they're still not quite done with us.
For those planning to take advantage of the warmth on Friday, it would be wise to enjoy it while it lasts. The impending cooling on Sunday could bring rainfall that remains somewhat of a wild card regarding timing and intensity. With only moderate west to northwest winds expected, it might be the perfect time to dust off that rain jacket and prepare for some classic Bay Area fickleness in weather.
Maritime conditions are also affected, with the NWS issuing various advisories. "Gale force gusts are expected over the northern outer waters and near gale force to the occasional gale force gust are expected over the southern outer waters," states the maritime section of the same National Weather Service report. Those at sea should exercise caution as these breezy conditions will continue next week.
