In an early morning bust on Saturday, officers and members of the Drug Control Units in Boston converged on several South Boston addresses, leading to the arrest of six individuals on a range of charges from firearm possession to drug distribution. The raids were part of a more significant law enforcement effort to clamp down on the local drug trade, answering to the complaints from community members about illegal drug activity in their neighborhood.
The operation, which took place around 7:19 AM, targeted locations at 22 Logan Way and 391 Old Colony Avenue—areas long suspected of contributing to the neighborhood's drug distribution network. According to the Boston Police Department, seizures included a Sig Sauer firearm, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, cash, and drug packaging materials from one address, and a Taurus firearm along with additional cash from the other location.
Larriston Lake, a Roslindale resident, faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute Class B drugs. His criminal record now includes a Level 3 Armed Career Criminal charge, along with allegations of distributing Class A substances. Danielle Fougere, Phillip Renaud, Francis Kenney, John Randall, and Kieran McGourty were also arrested, with accusations ranging from conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute to active arrest warrants for unrelated crimes.
The sting's success is reflected in the details of the charges. Lake, for instance, was charged with not just a simple possession but also the intent to distribute, indicating a role beyond mere possession. In a similar vein, Fougere's charges include Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws and Two Counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, hinting at a potentially more comprehensive involvement in the drug scene. Renaud, Kenney, and Randall's charges relate primarily to drug offenses, while McGourty was arrested for outstanding financial crime charges. A seventh suspect nabbed in the operations has been summoned to court on possession charges.
All suspects arrested in the raid are expected to be arraigned through the South Boston District Court. This action by the Drug Control Units underscores a fortified stance against the intricate web of drug-related crimes that have long plagued certain Boston communities, placing particular focus on disrupting the cycle of selling and distribution.
