Early Thursday morning, the quiet of Roxbury’s residential area was disrupted by urban violence. Officers from District B-2 were called to an alarming scene where a man, later identified as Richard Garofalo, was apprehended after authorities were alerted to a dangerous situation involving a firearm. According to the Boston Police Department, at approximately 8:33 AM, near Island Street and Gerald Street, officers arrested the 28-year-old Boston native on multiple firearm charges.
Garofalo's capture followed a police report about an individual who had assaulted a victim and flashed a weapon. Acting swiftly, police located the suspect based on a description provided by Boston Police Operations that matched Garofalo. Although there was no direct threat apparent to bystanders, a pat frisk conducted by the responding officers led to the discovery of a concealed Smith & Wesson 380 Bodyguard inside Garofalo's backpack. The firearm was loaded, chambered, and had its serial number obliterated.
With the firearm secured, Garofalo's fate was sealed. He now faces charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon on a Public Way, and Defacement of a Firearm Serial Number. These charges, detailed by the Boston Police Department, mark a disrupted attempt to carry anonymity into criminal endeavors. The Roxbury District Court is now set to be the stage where Garofalo will answer for his alleged concealment of deadly force within a public space.
