Boynton Beach Police Department (BBPD) has set up a new red-light camera designed to catch traffic violations, specifically targeting red-light runners at a critical cross-section of the city. According to information provided by CBS12, the camera stands vigilant at the intersection of Boynton Beach Boulevard and NW 8th Street.
The camera initiative enters its active phase soon; currently it's in a grace period where violators will receive warnings; however, starting from tomorrow there'll be no such leniency and offenders will face a $158 fine. As the camera watches over westbound traffic, looking for those who decide the red light is merely a suggestion rather than a directive, the Police Department's intention behind this move is to reduce the instances of such violations, hoping to enhance the safety of the intersection for both motorists and pedestrians alike. In a reminder shared on the Boynton Beach Police Department official Facebook page, BBPD reiterated the urgency and importance of adhering to traffic laws at this location.
It's important for drivers to note that while the fine is a financial sting, the red-light violation is a civil matter and, as such, will not tarnish a driving record—unless repeated infractions flag a pattern of non-compliance. This was clarified by the Boynton Beach Police Department.
