The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is slated to publicize a detailed report on its actions during the tragic May 24, 2022, school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, as indicated by agency spokespersons. Although a definitive release date has not been established, expectations are high for the agency to expound on its response when a gunman took the lives of nineteen children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School, a scenario that saw law enforcement delay confrontation with the shooter for an agonizing 77 minutes.
A CBP official reported that their Border Patrol Tactical Unit was involved in an exchange of gunfire with the assailant, and despite identities not being disclosed, information obtained by KSAT suggests that a U.S. border patrol agent was the one who ultimately terminated the shooter, CBP had previously shared images showing injuries an agent sustained during the gunfire exchange and now, a victim’s family member has conveyed to KSAT a scheduled meeting with CBP to discuss the forthcoming report.
In a parallel development, related findings from the CBP investigation are also set to be divulged, with a release of approximately 2000 pages of information promised for Thursday, as noted in a statement from the agency expressing that CBP's Office of Professional Responsibility has conducted a comprehensive review of the agency's response to the tragic events at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas and that these findings will be communicated to the public and the people of Uvalde, sources disclosed to SBG San Antonio's Matt Roy, mentioning that the document dump will include audio transcripts and outline the critical transitions of power among agencies during the incident, according to News 4 San Antonio.
But developments in Uvalde don't cease there, as local authorities have advised that an employee faced disciplinary actions for withholding body camera footage of the calamity, this comes after the City of Uvalde grappled in court before releasing over 600 files to the public, including text messages and body camera video, and while the former Uvalde CISD Police Chief Pete Arredondo faces criminal charges related to the mass shooting, he has actively contested the legal accusations through a motion to quash the indictments, as mentioned by News 4 San Antonio.
