
A 44-year-old man has been charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking and aggravated battery in Chicago, authorities reported. Richard Brito, residing on the 8000 block of S. Tripp, was apprehended by the Vehicular Hijacking Task Force on September 5, 2024, in the 1300 block of W. 51st St.
According to a press release from the Chicago Police Department, Brito is accused of having battered a 52-year-old male on August 26, 2024, before forcibly taking his vehicle in the 9th District of Chicago. The victim was assaulted in the 5100 block of S. Rockwell whereupon Brito allegedly hijacked the vehicle.
Brito is facing one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon and one felony count of aggravated battery in a public place. The suspect has been charged and was due to appear for a detention hearing at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California on September 6, 2024.
The details regarding the incident remain limited, but the Vehicular Hijacking Task Force, a unit specifically dedicated to such cases, took swiftly to apprehend the alleged offender. The Chicago Police have not yet released any additional information pertaining to the case or the defendant's arrest.
