Chicago Police to Ramp Up DUI Saturation Patrol in Chicago Lawn District This WeekendSource: Chicago Police Department

Residents of Chicago Lawn can expect an increase in police presence this weekend, as the Chicago Police Department announces it will be conducting a DUI Saturation Patrol in the 8th District. From Friday, September 13 at 6 p.m. until Saturday, September 14 at 2 a.m., officers will be focused on monitoring for impaired driving and other traffic-related offenses.

Aside from targeting drunk drivers, the operation will also emphasize enforcing speed, alcohol-related, and seat belt violations. With speed detection equipment in hand, roving officers are set to apprehend those pushing beyond the legal velocity limits. The BAT Mobile Unit could be on scene to expedite the charging and bonding process for those caught under the influence, capable of issuing Individual Recognizance Bonds on site.

This upcoming patrol follows the recent similar operation in the 10th (Ogden) District. According to their report, the program in early September yielded a total of 58 citations. These included 22 for unsafe vehicle violations, 10 for insurance violations, and three for suspended or revoked licenses, among others. Strikingly, no DUIs or open liquor violations were reported during that patrol.
