Following a distressing wave of online threats directed towards Cincinnati schools, police have taken six teenagers into custody. These intimidations incited concern in local communities, mainly as they occurred in the wake of a tragic school shooting in Georgia.
The teens, who are between 13 and 16 years old, face charges of inducing panic and making false threats, as per WLWT. The threats were disseminated on social media platforms this Wednesday and Thursday, prompting heightened security measures in several school districts. One institution, Mt. Healthy City Schools, even canceled classes to ensure the safety of their students and staff.
In response to these events, Cincinnati Police Lt. Jonathan Cunningham issued a firm reminder of the gravity of such threats. "Making a threat of violence against a school is a crime. Regardless of whether an individual intends to commit the act, they can be arrested and charged," he declared in a statement obtained by FOX19. Additionally, he stressed, "This behavior will not be tolerated in our community."
The schools reportedly targeted by the threats included Oyler School, DePaul Cristo Rey High School, Taft Information Technology High School, and Roberts Academy. Information from WCPO highlights the arrestees: a 16-year-old from Oyler School, a 15-year-old associated with DePaul Cristo Rey, a 14-year-old linked to Taft, and three 13-year-olds in connection with Roberts Academy. The districts affected, including Cincinnati Public Schools and Northwest Local Schools, have implemented extra security to safeguard the academic environment.
