A Cleveland County Detention Officer, Luis Alejandro Cardona, has been charged with multiple counts, including sexual battery and assault, following allegations of improper conduct with an inmate. According to FOX 25, the investigation began when jail officials received reports of Cardona's inappropriate interactions with several inmates in one of the pods.
Details from an affidavit, as cited by News 9, report one inmate's complaint about Cardona's behavior, describing him as making flirtatious remarks and feeling uncomfortable due to him groping her and making comments on her breast size. The officer, accused of giving the inmate his phone number, told her to "hit him up" when she gets out.
Surveillance footage reviewed during the investigation supports the inmate's claims, showing Cardona entering her cell for a site check. The inmate alleged that Cardona touched her inappropriately and that after being knocked to the ground by him, she injured her knee and received threats that reporting him would be ineffective, according to documentation referenced by Oklahoma's News 4.
During interrogation, Cardona admitted to liking the inmate and acknowledged that he had brushed against her breast but denied any sexual contact. Investigators observed in the surveillance video that after the inmate was knocked down, Cardona raised his hands as if he were not at fault. Cardona, who is awaiting formal arraignment on October 9, faces two counts of sexual battery and one count of assault and battery.
