In a recent theft case in Colma, Hugo Pelaezmayen, described as a 39-year-old unhoused individual, has been met with a string of charges about a robbery that occurred on Sunday. According to a report by the Colma Police Department, officers were called to a business on Hillside Boulevard after a theft was reported, marking the second consecutive day of losses for the owner due to Pelaezmayen's alleged actions.
The situation escalated after the crime when the business owner confronted Pelaezmayen, who in turn started hurling rocks, stirring fears for the owner's safety. However, no injuries were reported in this altercation. The ordeal continued as Pelaezmayen ran for it, weaving through residential areas and even hiding behind a church at one point. Despite the frantic chase and multiple fence jumps in an apparent bid to evade capture, his freedom was short-lived.
With support from the South San Francisco Police Department, officers set up a perimeter and flush out Pelaezmayen from his temporary hideout in a resident's backyard. An 'alert citizen' was pivotal in directing the police to Pelaezmayen's location. He was promptly arrested and identified by the business owner as the culprit. The value of the stolen tools was estimated to be about $3,200.
Searches incidental to Pelaezmayen's arrest turned up drug paraphernalia and substances believed to be methamphetamine, which tacked on additional charges to the already serious accusations of robbery and obstruction of peace officers. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail, as per the information provided by the Colma Police Department's official communication on the matter.
