A quiet day at Jenness Pond in Northwood, New Hampshire turned tragic when an adult male was found deceased in the water. The New Hampshire State Police – Marine Patrol reported that at approximately 5:37 p.m. on September 4, they were called to the scene of a suspected drowning at a residence on the pond, where Marine Patrol officers discovered 68-year-old George Chapman of Concord submerged and unresponsive.
Chapman was quickly found by a family member who initiated life-saving measures and promptly dialed 911, although emergency responders, continuing the efforts to revive him upon their arrival, ultimately pronounced Chapman dead at the scene, his struggle against the embrace of the water had ceased. Though the initial investigation conducted by authorities indicates that Chapman may have fallen into the water due to a medical episode preceding his drowning, the tragic occurrence has prompted a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding his passing.
Accompanying Marine Patrol on site were members from the Northwood Police Department, Northwood Fire and Rescue Department, the Pittsfield Fire Department, and personnel from the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
