
The Culver City Police Department has apprehended a suspect in connection with an attempted armed robbery that took place on the 5800 block of Green Valley Circle near an ATM, as per a press release from the department, in a continued effort to mitigate such threats to the community, the suspect, identified as a 60-year-old Black female with reddish-orange curly hair was said to have approached a victim at the ATM on the morning of August 31.
The suspect allegedly brandished a firearm and issued a chilling ultimatum captured in the police report: "Put all the money inside the bag or I’ll shoot," according to the press release; the victim, propelled by fear for her life, managed to evade harm by seeking refuge inside a nearby bank, a move that was followed by the suspect's temporary pursuit before leaving the scene. Although the investigation by Culver City police initially met with the anonymity of the suspect, they later identified Mattie Harris of Inglewood as the alleged perpetrator, details provided by the Culver City Police Department indicate.
Following an operation on September 6, Harris was taken into custody by a team combining emergency response and crisis negotiation skills, despite her initial refusal to exit a residence, dialogue facilitated by negotiators led to her peaceful surrender after tense hours, the specialized use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle operators played a role in this outcome. Subsequent to her apprehension, on September 10, Harris faced official charges from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, namely one count of first-degree robbery and felon in possession of ammunition, as the Culver City Police Department press release elaborates.
