The City of Dallas is abuzz with activity as it kicks off Welcoming Week 2024, a movement bringing to the forefront the city's dedication to being a community where every person is valued. From September 13th through September 22nd, the city, led by the Office of Equity and Inclusion, Welcoming Communities and Immigrant Affairs Division, is swimming with events aimed at strengthening connections between immigrants and long-term residents, and promoting inclusivity and belonging for all.

Running under the theme "We’re All In," Dallas is hosting a series of events that not only celebrates its diverse demographic tapestry but also looks at the concrete contributions these communities bring to the local economy. Assimilating data, as per the City of Dallas, the "New Americans in Dallas" report notes immigrants, though only representing 23.2% of the local population, make up 28.4% of the city's employed labor force and wield an impressive $8.2 billion in spending power.

"Welcoming Week is a powerful reminder of the strength found in unity," said Liz Cedillo Pereira, Assistant City Manager, as per the City of Dallas. She is recognized for her work in making Dallas the first Certified Welcoming City in Texas. In a city where myriad cultures intersect, the event places a spotlight on the inclusive atmosphere that is synonymous with Dallas' growing profile as a center for growth and innovation.

In tandem with celebrating the cultural and economic impacts, the week-long initiative encourages Dallasites to engage actively. Residents are invited, according to the City of Dallas, by sharing their own experiences of inclusion and diversity, posing with "I am a Welcomer" signs in various languages, and tagging the city's social media handles. Through such actions, the city visualizes a narrative of unity, displaying a collage of its citizens' commitment to being welcoming to all walks of life.
