The City of Dallas is ramping up its community safety initiatives with a new training course to prepare residents for emergencies and disasters. According to an announcement by the City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management & Crisis Response, a free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training Course will take place this September, imbuing locals with the know-how for crisis situations.
The training will be held at the Dallas Fire-Rescue Training Academy on Dolphin Road on three Sundays—September 8, 15, and 22. The office has highlighted the urgency of registration, with a September 7 deadline, and encourages those interested to act fast to secure a spot. Information on additional courses in Spanish will be made available at a later date.
The CERT program teaches first aid, fire safety, and light search and rescue skills. The course ends with a practical disaster exercise. After completing the training, participants receive a certificate recognizing their emergency preparedness and response skills.
According to the same source, the Office of Emergency Management & Crisis Response's core mission is to boost the city's resilience through steadfast emergency planning and community-driven response training.
