An explosion in Springfield Township yesterday resulted in the death of one person and left two others injured. The State Fire Marshal’s office confirmed it was working with local fire departments to uncover the cause of the blast, which devastated a single-family home, as reported by Cleveland19 News. According to the State Fire Marshal, investigators were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident occurred.

Richland County coroner's investigator Bob Ball identified the deceased as 47-year-old Krista Cramer of Lexington. Two other individuals were transported to hospitals following the occurrence, one man was transported via helicopter to OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, and a woman was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Firefighters engaged in rescue efforts amidst debris to reach the victims, with Fire Chief Adam Spellman saying, "We found one of the victims under a pile of rubble," in a statement reported by the Mansfield News Journal. Spellman further disclosed that they were alerted to a fire but, upon arrival, found the house destroyed.

Authorities are currently investigating the explosion that occurred around 1 p.m., as Spellman stated to News 5 Cleveland. The explosion resulted in a large debris field extending up to 75 yards from the site of the incident. Despite the scale of the explosion, no adjacent properties were reported to have been affected by the blast.

The community response included multiple fire departments and emergency services, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the need for a collaborative effort. According to Chief Spellman via News 5 Cleveland, the explosion was "like something you'd see out of a movie," with the house entirely leveled and an active fire in what remained of the basement. The Richland County chapter of the American Red Cross, the Ohio Highway Patrol, and the Richland County Emergency Management Agency were on the scene assisting the Springfield Township Fire Department.
