An early morning disturbance in Downtown Portland escalated into fatal violence this morning when a shooting claimed the life of one individual. According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers were dispatched to the cross of Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Ankeny Street at approximately 3:36 a.m. following reports of gunfire in the area.

Upon their arrival, police discovered that a male victim had already been taken to the hospital by private vehicle. Tragically, he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim is being withheld until the medical examiner can confirm it and the next of kin are notified. As of this time, the responsible parties for the shooting remain at large, having fled the scene before law enforcement could intervene.
